Osteoporosis Day 2026 was on 20th October so I’m a little late in posting. It’s held to raise awareness about bone health and fracture prevention. This is important because in the UK, around 1 in 2 women and 1 in 5 men over the age of 50 will break a bone due to this condition.
If you have osteoporosis, your bones become porous and are more likely than other people’s bones to fracture after a fall or other impact. While exercise is unlikely to cause a fracture, it’s best to avoid those that are potentially harmful, and focus on those that are helpful instead. Over the last year, I have been revising the exercises we do in my mat classes along these lines.
If you have a diagnosis or osteoporosis or osteopenia (its pre-cursor) and have had a fracture, please let me know. You may need further adaptations to your exercises.
