Dental Care

Dental care may not have a direct link to Pilates, however, I recently read that brushing your teeth two or three times a day, does more than just protect your teeth and gums from decay.

Studies show that gum disease from poor oral hygiene allows bacteria to enter the bloodstream, causing inflammation. This is linked to many health conditions, including: rheumatoid arthritis, dementia, diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, heart disease, stroke and asthma.

To reduce the risk of developing these diseases and maintain good overall health, follow the NHS advice on How to keep your teeth clean.

The advice includes the instruction to brush your teeth “for about two minutes”. If you have an electric toothbrush with a timer, or another timer, I suggest you use the time to improve you balance by standing on each leg for one minute while you are brushing.
