Social Value of Group Exercise

EMD UK (Exercise Music Dance) is the national governing body for group exercise. It has recently completed a report showing a massive £5.3 billion of social and economic benefit is generated through group exercise. This figures reflects improved health and wellbeing; stronger and better-connected communities; and economic growth.

Over 10.6 million adults participate in group exercise. That’s more than cycling, swimming or football. This includes over 4 million people with characteristics of inequality, which shows it is highly accessible.

“What EMD UK’s report does is deliver to all the evidence that group exercise should always be at the forefront of any investment in health, wellness and building strong communities.”
