A recent report from the University of Bristol said “We can learn to be happy, but only get lasting benefits if we keep practising”. A 10-week Science of Happiness course was set up for students in 2018. Those who took part experienced a 10-15% improvement in wellbeing, but only those who continued to do the things they’d learned maintained this boost.

Professor Bruce Hood’s top seven happiness hacks are:

  1. Try meditation on a regular basis
  2. Write a letter of gratitude
  3. Perform random acts of kindness
  4. Seek out others and make new connections
  5. Increase the amount of exercise you do
  6. Get three nights of seven hours sleep per week
  7. Take time to savour the world around you
