“Everyone is the architect of their own happiness.”
Joseph Pilates
A recent report from the University of Bristol said “We can learn to be happy, but only get lasting benefits if we keep practising”. A 10-week Science of Happiness course was set up for students in 2018. Those who took part experienced a 10-15% improvement in wellbeing, but only those who continued to do the things they’d learned maintained this boost.
Professor Bruce Hood’s top seven happiness hacks are:
- Try meditation on a regular basis
- Write a letter of gratitude
- Perform random acts of kindness
- Seek out others and make new connections
- Increase the amount of exercise you do
- Get three nights of seven hours sleep per week
- Take time to savour the world around you
It’s official–exercise such as Pilates can help make you happy!
