I am currently studying Pilates for the older adult. After all, we are all getting older. All at the same rate – one day at at time! But how old is old? One of my reference books is ‘Training the Over 50’s’. That includes me and I don’t think I’m old.
Joseph Pilates said:
“If your spine is inflexibly stiff at 30, you are old. If it is completely flexible at 60, you are young.”
It is true that we do slow down as we age, bone density decreases, muscles reduce in strength and endurance, respiratory and cardiovascular systems become less efficient. But the good news is that physical activity can delay the aging process by 10-20 years.
